Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews, a 30-year veteran of CBS News, has been appointed as the President of CBS News. Having previously served as Executive VP for Newsgathering, Ciprian-Matthews will now have top editorial oversight for CBS News across all platforms. This includes overseeing CBS News programs, bureaus, global newsgathering, streaming, and digital editorial. She will also be responsible for standards and practices, special events, politics, elections and surveys, social, and the race and culture unit. Ciprian-Matthews has held several leadership positions within CBS News, including Senior VP of News Administration and VP of News. She has also served as CBS News Foreign Editor, Senior Broadcast Producer for the “CBS Evening News,” and Senior Producer for CBS News' foreign coverage.[0] In 1993, she became a Senior Producer at CBS News, responsible for producing live segments for the morning news.[0]

In her new role, Ciprian-Matthews will oversee all aspects of CBS News, including CBS News Radio. According to CBS, she will have editorial oversight for CBS News programs, bureaus, global newsgathering, streaming and digital editorial, standards and practices, special events, politics, elections and surveys, social, the race and culture unit, and CBS News Radio. This promotion comes as Wendy McMahon is named President/CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures.[1] McMahon, who joined CBS News in 2021, will now have top editorial oversight for the unit across all platforms.[0]

Ciprian-Matthews' appointment as President of CBS News highlights her impressive career and accomplishments. She is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and has received awards such as the Alfred I. duPont Award for CBS News' coverage of the Newtown tragedy and the Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence for CBS News.[2] In 2016, she was presented with the Presidential Award of Impact by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.[0]

The departure of Neeraj Khemlani as co-president of CBS News and stations has paved the way for these recent changes in leadership.[3] Khemlani, who faced controversy during his tenure, is leaving the network to pursue a multi-year, multi-platform first-look deal with CBS to develop content such as documentaries, scripted series, and books for Simon & Schuster.

The appointment of Ciprian-Matthews as President of CBS News signifies the network's commitment to excellence in journalism and its dedication to providing comprehensive news coverage across all platforms. With her extensive experience and leadership skills, Ciprian-Matthews is well-equipped to steer CBS News into the future. Her oversight will ensure the highest standards of journalism and editorial integrity are maintained, while also embracing new technologies and platforms to reach a wider audience. CBS News can expect a continued commitment to delivering accurate, informative, and impactful news under Ciprian-Matthews' leadership.
